PPP, through its president, Mike D'Ambrosa, has been closely working with the Software Engineering Institute.  PPP, through its president, Mike D'Ambrosa, is (or has been) authorized to perform key SEI/CMMI Institute services, including the following:

  • Authorized SW-CMM Instructor
  • Authorized SW-CMM Lead Assessor (CBA IPI)
  • Authorized CMMI-DEV Instructor

Mike D'Ambrosa has attended over a dozen conferences and has given one or more presentations at most of them.  Most recently Mike attended the European SEPG Conference held in Dublin, Ireland.  He also attended the prior E-SEPG Conference held in Porto, Portugal.  In Porto Mike presented a full-day tutorial on using regression equations to predict project performance.

Mike has been involved in engineering/software/management since the early 1980s.  (Prior to that he was a college professor of Mathematics, which is where the doctorate comes from).  The last 16 years of that time his emphasis has been on CMM/CMMI-related process improvement, training, and appraisal activities.  He has performed those activities for many different companies, with many different organizational structures.

  • Fouteen years consulting experience focused on product development and services consulting, statistical analyses, and process appraisals.  Clients included BAE Systems, Prudential, IBM, AT&T, AIG, and Axa Insurance.

  • President of self-owned technical consulting firm.
  • Developer of CMMI Lean Appraisal Method (CLAM), a low-cost flexible appraisal method.
  • Responsible for general process consulting, training, and appraising in accordance with standards developed by the Software Engineering Institute (SEI).  Worked primarily with defense firms and IT groups.
  • Contributing author for Versions 1.2 and 1.3 of the CMMI (SEI’s model of best development practices, which is used worldwide). 

BAE Systems (& legacy companies) – Wayne, NJ

  • Manager/Director of Process Improvement Department.  Responsible for coordinating process improvement activities at BAE Systems Communication and Navigation Solutions (C&NS) business area, located in Wayne, NJ.
  • BAE Systems North America Process Improvement Project Manager.
  • SEI Partner technical contact for BAE Systems.
  • Software Manager for MIDS multi-national NATO Link-16 project – responsible for over $40M of software development and delivery.  At its peak managed 70 software engineers.

Skills, Credentials, Related Accomplishments

  • SEI-authorized high maturity (i.e. statistically based) lead appraiser and authorized trainer for a three-day SEI Introduction to CMM course.  Responsibilities include training and leading a team which appraises the development of organization’s processes, procedures, and forecasting models.
  • Led a division of BAE to a successful high maturity appraisal by providing technical direction, training, regression equation support, etc.
  • Made numerous (10-15) very well-received presentations at numerous conferences in the US and Europe.  In particular gave a full-day tutorial in Portugal in 2010 on using regression equations to predict project performance.
  • Has participated in or led 35+ CMM/CMMI-based appraisals.
  • Was a member of the SEI-sponsored International Process Research Consortium (IPRC).
